- winter scenes and weather, snow, ice, light and shadows

Fridays 2.15pm – 4.45pm (2.5 hours with breaks)

This course is for novices or those with some experience in painting, but not necessarily in this subject, and will explore landscape views using a range of gouache techniques (both transparent watercolour and opaque body colour), and some mixed media.

We’ll explore wet into wet, light to dark, dark to light, layering methods, lifting paint off, glazing, masking, spattering, scratching and other exciting approaches.

We’ll look at a variety of paper / card supports, including painting on mountboard and make reference particularly to the work of a variety of contemporary and historical painters, such as James Gurney, Andrew Wyeth, Stepan Kolesnikov, Wolfgang Baxrainer.

Most of the time we’ll use a range of photographic reference, including where appropriate, students’ own.
