NATURAL FORM INTO ABSTRACTION
Mondays 10.15am - 1.15pm (3 hours with breaks)
This course is suitable for those with some experience with paint and who have an interest in semi-abstract or abstract imagery. We’ll be using creative and experimental drawing media and techniques to explore fascinating, unusual and exotic natural forms.
We’ll study skeletal and other biological forms, macro nature imagery, museum specimens, insect forms, twisted root / plant structures and more, looking at line / texture / tone and form / colour qualities. We’ll develop these drawings, using further media / techniques, into abstract artwork.
Gesso and plaster surfaces and textures, various acrylic / watercolour mediums, collage, monoprint, ink and bleach and many other appropriate mixed media will be included, and we’ll be exploring a range of different surfaces to work on.
We will be visiting the Booth Museum in Hove to draw from the wide variety of sources there. We’ll make reference to several artists such as Andy Goldsworthy, Layla May Arthur, Sarah Simblet and numerous other contemporary and historical artists. .
